It’s hard to believe that Odesza’s third album A Moment Apart was released over a year ago. The duo has been touring so relentlessly that the album has hardly had a moment to leave our collective consciousness. And yet, it’s been 14 months since the album came out. Now, at the tail end of 2018, Odesza is gracing their fans (us included) with a brilliant deluxe edition of the album, featuring a couple VIP remixes, some reprisals, and instrumentals.
The massive trap tune “Loyal” makes its own reprise on this deluxe edition after being released as a single earlier this year, as it leads off the second section on the deluxe. This is followed up by Odesza and Golden Feature’s VIP remix of “Memories That You Call” and Odesza’s VIP remix of “It’s Only,” which came out yesterday.
The rest of the album consists of reprisals and instrumentals. Reprisals, in this context, seems to refer to a muted, more mellow version of their original counterparts. “Falls” and “Line of Sight,” for example, are presented with softer drums and less synth embellishment. Think of it as music you fall asleep to rather than music you dance to.
