Live Nation is in talks to acquire 50% (not yet official, just reported) of Insomniac Events, possibly giving a large stake in one of the biggest promoters in electronic music. Over the past few months a bidding war had ensued between Live Nation, SFX Entertainment and a handful of other contenders. It appears Live Nation is coming out on top and is on the verge of closing a deal that is sure to shape dance music in America for quite some time. Sources close to the matter have reported that Live Nation will be getting a half of Insomniac Events for a cool $50 million.
As of right now it seems that there will be no restructuring at Insomniac but it is clear that Pasquale could use the money. Also, with Live Nation already owning Hard Events, this explains the cross-promotion of the Hard stage at EDC Vegas. This type of cross-promotion may be something we see more as a clear duopoly is forming with SFX Entertainment and Live Nation now controlling most of the electronic music market.

mediocre venues, organized seating (look up cynthia woods mitchell pavillion in the houston area if you don’t believe), high ass prices on concessions, high fees and higher ticket prices. also say good bye to shows that go into the late night; live nation isn’t known for those.

I don’t think much will change. EDC is already super expensive. High ticket price, outrageous concessions, etc. Nothing will change regarding club shows. I’m right outside of NYC and the scene is booming. More big shows, more higher end artists coming through, and more venues hosting electronic events. Sure, part of the festival scene will start to change and that does suck. But the club show scene is getting better and better. SFX and Live Nation do not/will not control electronic music. They are only buying out the big boys to cash in, as scummy as that is

You are definitely not hearing cutting edge EDM if you attend one of these events. I does not mean you do not like it just that you need to go to smaller events and dig deeper to find the good stuff. Take it from a 15 year veteran of the scene.
