Beatport Launches ‘Hype Charts’ And Reveals Top Genres

As a fixture in electronic music since it was founded in 2004, Beatport has been instrumental in not only growing artists, but labels as well. The service announced today the launch of its Hype Charts in June 2018, designed to promote and highlight smaller labels. These charts will be prominently featured on Beatport’s 10 biggest genre pages and will make it easier to identify unique, up-and-coming releases from all over the world. In fact, independent music comprises 96 percent of Beatport sales, with approximately 25,000 new releases added each week.

‘Hype Picks’ will be personally selected weekly in each genre by Beatport’s curation team in order to give even more visibility to the truly stand-out songs among the rising stars. To give even more visibility, one banner and two new release tiles in each genre will be reserved for labels from the Hype Charts.

Beatport Chief Product Officer, Terry Weerasinghe commented, “With so many incredible releases added to Beatport each week, there’s a lot of competition for the attention of our DJ customers. The Hype Charts give top billing to those shining gems that might have previously gone under the radar. It’s a valuable tool for Beatport to promote new talent, while encouraging the DJ community to dig deeper in the store.”

In addition to launching Hype Charts, Beatport also reveals its top-selling genres: techno, tech-house, house and deep house) still dominate sales, with techno maintaining as the top-selling genre. Beatport also launched a new genre category under “melodic house & techno” in March, and it quickly became the platform’s fastest-growing genre, swiftly reaching the No. 6 spot.

“While Beatport’s main House and Techno categories represent the biggest floor-filling tracks across the genres, Melodic House & Techno brings together a thriving sound that has not been easy to categorise as the lines blur  between sounds and styles,” commented Beatport Label & Artist Relations Director, Jack Bridges.
