One of Australia’s most highly regarded music festivals, Stereosonic, experienced an overwhelming amount of tragedy today as one attendee was taken off of the grounds at Sydney Olympic Park to nearby Concord Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. As of now, the circumstances behind the 25-year-old’s passing are not known.
Another attendee, 22-years-old, is currently in critical condition in Westmead Hospital, after being put into a medically induced coma.
69 people were charged with the supply and possession of drugs, while 23 were given cautions for the possession of marijuana.
According to ABC, police at the event were alarmed by the amount of arrests and disappointed by the behavior of the festival’s 50,000 attendees.
Despite authorities’ coordinated efforts to provide a secure and safe experience for concertgoers, the event will likely force a serious reconsideration of their approach.
Stereosonic is scheduled to visit Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane in the coming weeks. Today was their first stop.
