Friction – Freak feat. Josh Barry [Elevate]

If you were lucky enough to attend EDC in Las Vegas this year and enjoy drum and bass, chances are that you heard the buzz created by Shogun Audio CEO Friction on the BassPOD. Every summer season, listeners can look forward to at least a few anthemic dance floor tunes that will last far longer than hot and sticky weather (unless you are in California, that is). Friction has once again stepped up to the plate to dive into another banger that will be double-dropped in all your favorite club sets for years that follow. “Freak,” featuring Josh Barry of Gorgon City, encapsulates the last few months of long nights and mixed emotions into one festival summertime anthem that is sure to vibe with sub-genre connoisseurs all the way to new arrivals to the scene. The lyrics will sink your stomach and uplift your soul right back into the groove all at once. Friction proves once again why he has earned his title as one of the most consistent and forward-thinking producers leading the genre since its conception.

Starting slow, Friction introduces an enjoyable melody that rises so naturally into the first few words that narrate  “Gonna have a fresh start”. “Freak” flows through vocals that centralize on an issue we all face: love and a counterpart. Dropping into a classic feel good bassline that molds a groovy foundation for the singalong vocals, this song is a perfect representation of summertime sadness.

If you like the track, it is available now on iTunes.
