I haven’t been able to do one of these in a while with the amount of work I’ve had, but I’m so, so happy that I randomly found Syntact’s new track, “Shallow.”
You can feel the emotion melting from the trumpet and piano in the intro; once the breakbeat comes in, feelings of nostalgia begin to flood in, like a dam that has failed to serve its purpose; and once those bass synths begin, it’s all over man. Musically, this is one of the purest and cleanest tracks that I’ve heard in a long while. The sound design isn’t necessarily innovative, but the composition and writing are off-the-charts beautiful.
The bridge begins with acoustic guitar, bringing the breakbeat back in. The soft vocals provide respite, time to collect yourself and prepare for the rest of the track – bringing back in the piano and bass synths. The second drop is considerably more fun and funky than the first, but retains that value of emotionality.
Finishing off with the trumpet once again leads us full circle… I could listen to this track all day and never get tired of it. And with a free download, so can you.
